Perhaps, many of you have visited a dentist for deep cleaning of your mouth. But many of you may be going for a dental cleaning for the first time in your life. It is needed to maintain oral hygiene. The process can take a time of 30 minutes to one hour. During this time there is an inspection of multiple dental problems such as gum infection, tooth decay, cavities, signs of oral cancer, etc. It is recommended by the dentist two dental cleanings per year, but sometimes when you have problems like gum diseases, you may need it more frequently.
Removing Plaque: Followed by a physical exam of your mouth, a dental hygienist will remove plaque and tartar from your mouth. With the help of a small mirror and scalar, the hygienist will remove plaque and tartar around the gum line.
Gritty Toothpaste: Once all the tartar is removed from the teeth, your teeth will be brushed with an electric brush. The toothpaste used in this process has gritty consistency that gently scrubs your teeth. This will polish your teeth. In case you feel pain during this process, then inform your dentist. As this can be a sign of other dental problems.
Flossing: Flossing by an expert is better than floss you do at home. A hygienist will go deep between your teeth and locate the spots where plaque or some toothpaste is still there. Then it will be removed.
Rinse Your Mouth: Next, a hygienist will give you a liquid that generally contains fluoride to rinse your mouth. You do this to remove any debris in your mouth.
Applying Fluoride: This is the final step of the cleaning process. Doing this will protect your teeth against cavities for some months. The hygienist will place a gel on your teeth and then leave it for one minute to dry. Followed by this, the hygienist will paint fluoride varnish on the top and side of each tooth with a small brush. It becomes hardened when come in contact with saliva.
