What is Airflow?
Airflow by EMS is a thorough way to clean teeth and gums to give a deep and professional clean. Airflow will remove stubborn stains from teeth such as tea, coffee and red wine but it will also remove harmful bacteria in your mouth which if left untreated can lead to serious problems such as gum disease and tooth loss.
Airflow is becoming popular with patients from Greenwich, Stratford, Canada Water, West India Quay, Canning Town, and throughout London who are wanting to get a powerful clean to their teeth and mouth.
GBT Therapy by EMS
Airflow forms part of a treatment that has been devised by EMS called Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT). The aim of this therapy is to tackle biofilm – a type of bacteria which cannot be seen, that causes tooth decay, gum disease and even tooth loss. Biofilm has also been linked to increased risk of developing other general diseases such as heart disease, Alzheimer’s and certain cancers.

How does Airflow and GBT therapy work?
GBT combines professional teeth and mouth cleaning at your dentist with proper dental care at home.
There are 8 steps involved in the Guided Biofilm Therapy process:
1) Examination
Your teeth and gums will be thoroughly examined.
2) Biofilm
The Biofilm in your mouth will be made visible by using a special dye.
3) Advice
Based on what we find, you’ll be given hygiene advice to practice at home.
4) Airflow Clean
Your teeth and mouth will be given a thorough Airflow clean. Airflow uses a combination of water, compressed air and fine sodium bicarbonate powder in a powerful jet of water. It removes stubborn stains from your teeth and bacteria from your mouth including all the hard to reach areas.
Airflow is a powerful, but painless treatment because, unlike the traditional scale and polish treatment, there is no direct contact with your teeth and this makes it a good form of treatment if you suffer with sensitive teeth.
5) Perioflow
Perioflow removes biofilm underneath the gums by reaching deep into the periodontal pockets.
6) Piezon
Plaque that is not removed through regular brushing can harden on your teeth to form calculus. Calculus cannot be removed with a toothbrush and so once it has been identified, it will be removed gently by your dentist with Piezon.
7) Quality Check
At this stage, your dentist will check to make sure that biofilm, calculus and any stains to your teeth have all been removed.
8) Your teeth, mouth and gums are thoroughly cleaned and noticeably different
