Steps to Maintain good oral health

Oral health is correlated with the overall health of an individual. You use your teeth to chew, grind and digest the food. Poor oral hygiene can result in cavities, gum infection, tooth decay, etc. One should brush and floss every day to maintain oral hygiene. Moreover, poor oral hygiene also puts the individual at risk of diabetes, dementia, heart diseases, respiratory problems, and cancer.

How one can maintain good oral hygiene:

Regular Dental Visit: One should visit a private dentist in Basingstoke for an inspection of your mouth. There are spaces between teeth, which cannot be cleaned by regular brushing and flossing. So, the dentist will do the proper cleaning and remove the plaque and tartar from your mouth. Moreover, dentists will also look for the signs of cavities and gum infections. The signs of oral cancer are also checked by the dentist as these are easy to treat in the earlier stages.

Rinse Your Mouth With Water: Every time you consume tea, coffee, or any other food items that contain sugar. Then you should rinse your mouth with water after you finish it. As bacteria in your mouth cause sugar to turn into acid that erodes the tooth enamel. This can cause tooth decay and cavities. When you rinse your mouth with water, it promotes saliva generation and washes out the acid.

Set A Routine: In general people bush for 60 to 75 seconds. One should brush teeth for 120 seconds. You can set a time of two minutes when you brush your teeth and devote 30 seconds each to all four quadrants of your mouth. The bushing should be done twice a day.

Limit Smoke And Alcohol: One should quit or limit the smoking habit as it leaves stains on the surface of teeth and put your gums at risk of infection. Consuming alcohol also leaves stains on teeth. Moreover alcohol also dry out the mouth and it contains acid that damages tooth enamel which can result into tooth decay and cavities.
